This privacy policy describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from The Thrifty Stitcher.

Purpose of this Privacy Notice

Maintaining the security of your data is a priority at The Thrifty Stitcher and I am committed to respecting your privacy rights and protecting your personal data at all times.  I seek to process and handle your data fairly and legally at all times.

This privacy policy applies whether you use your mobile device or your computer, and it informs you as to how I look after your personal data (regardless of where you visit from).  It provides you with information about the following:

  • What personal data is collected;
  • How your privacy is maintained;
  • Your legal rights relating to your personal data.

Please note this website is not intended for children and I do not knowingly collect data relating to children.

I may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. This policy is effective from 4 October 2009

Data collected about you.

I may collect the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your contact information including email address; address and phone number
  • Information about your use of my site, including details of your visits; eg what pages you viewed
  • Any other additional information provided voluntarily by you, for example when making a  class booking; buying a pattern or entering a competition

*Please note, customers’ debit or credit card details are not stored. They are processed by a secure third party card processing company. 

How your information is stored

Personal information is stored on a database and with selected third parties, as outlined below:

Paypal

I use paypal as my secure financial gateway for all classes and patterns. When you place an order  I receive your name, email address,billing address and shipping address. I DO NOT store any payment details. This information is used for the purpose of managaing your order, and getting your class or pattern delivered to you.

WordPress and WooCommerce
The Thrifty Stitcher is a WordPress website and some of our products are sold through WooCommerce. When you place an order with me for some of my classes/patterns I receive your name, email address, phone number, billing address and shipping address. I DO NOT store any payment details. This information then allows me allows me to to process your order, manage your class, or ship out a pattern to you. It also allows me to get in touch should there be any problems.

Accuity Scheduling and Eventbrite

I use both Accuity and Eventbrite as third party schedulers for my classes. When you book my classes I receive your name, email address, phone number, billing address and shipping address. I DO NOT store any payment details. This information then allows me allows me to to process your order, manage your class or get in touch should there be any problems.

Royal Mail
My pattern orders are sent out via Royal Mail. In order to print the shipping label, Royal Mail stores your name and shipping address. Having this information in Royal Mail allows me to see when your order was dispatched, and also allows orders to be tracked

Mailchimp
Mailchimp is a marketing automation platform, which I use to send out my newsletters. When you subscribe to my insider list,  your name and email address is stored on Mailchimp. When signing up for my insiders list, you can choose what type of e mails you’d like to receive (so class information is only sent to those who request it) Every e mail gives you an opt out link, so you can choose to remove yourself at any time in the future. Students are not automatically added to my list, you will need to opt in if you’d like to receive my newsletters

Go Daddy

My e mail account is with Go daddy, so any e mails sent to info@thethriftystitcher.co.uk are processed through go daddy and held on their secure servers.

 

What I do with your information

I require this information to understand  what you need and to provide you with a better service. Data collected enables me to do the following

  • Internal record keeping to ensure smooth management of classes
  • Process and send out your pattern orders
  • I send promotional emails with tips and inspiration along with information about new products or classes (only if you have requested to receive that info when signing up with your e mail)
  • In the future, I may use the information to tailor the website better to your needs and interests
  • I may use the information to improve my products and services

Data Security

I have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, I limit access to your personal data to those  third parties who as a business need to know (e.g. to process payments). They will only process your personal data on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

However, the internet is never totally secure and therefore I can’t 100% guarantee the security of data that you choose to send me electronically and sending me such information is entirely at your own risk. Should I find there has been an unlawful database breach, or the databases of a third party data processor, I will report it to any relevant authorities within 72 hours, and contact anybody whose data has been affected.

How cookies are used on this site

I use Google Analytics to monitor traffic on this website.  Google Analytics has always exclusively used 1st party cookies to ensure reliable tracking and to protect visitor privacy.  A cookie is a small file which websites can send to your computer and which helps analyse web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual.

Overall, cookies help me to provide you with a better website, enabling me to monitor which pages you find useful and which you do not. Cookies in no way gives me access to your computer or any personal information about you, other than the data you choose to share.

Control of your personal information

I will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless required by law to do so. In the event of the sale of this business, then your personal information may be passed on to the buyer.

You may request details of personal information which I hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. A small administration fee may be payable.

If you believe that any information I hold in relation to you is incorrect or incomplete, please let me know ASAP, so I can promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.
